Preface
My journey begins here in Calendon where the humans’ king, the only true king, Cael Stormblade, and his group of honest men have chosen to settle in Morania. It is the self-same king and his court who have forced me on this journey, which you have already read in the introduction to this book. It will not take me many days to finish this chapter, since I have lived in this city my whole life, and therefore I think me and my... protector, if one can call him that, will soon be able to journey towards the north where the majestic high elves live.

Written on the 7th day in the sign of Rahnee in the year 3451
When the gods had first created the elves and the dwarves they agreed to create yet another race, which were not as small as the dwarves and not as delicate as the elves: Man. To the delight of the gods, the humans sought neither towards the woods or the rocks, rather they remained on the open plains and hunted animals to get food. With time humans began to till the earth, so they wouldn’t be forced to follow the differents herds on their long wanderings. The humans slowly began to gather in small groups to protect each other and to help each other with their work. In time these communities grew larger and real communities appeared, although they were scattered on the huge continent, which was in existence prior to the world divison.

After the world division the humans gathered in larger and smaller groups and gradually formed towns and other small societies.

Humans typically wear hay, wool or cotton clothes, some few hide and fur. It depends a lot upon where in Néveri these humans live and how wealthy they are. Generally wealthy males wear pants and a shirt or jacket, perhaps a cape, and women wear fancy dresses. Less wealthy humans wear coarse clothes which are practical and can keep the weather out.

Generally humans build in either stone or wood, again depending on how much money they own and where in Néveri they live. Usually humans who live out in the country will build using wood and humans in towns will build using stone, as several towns build in wood have burned down over the years.

All humans speak a common language, across the borders of Néveri. Not many know how to read and write, but anybody can understand the human tongue. Some humans can understand other creatures’ language but those are commonly merchants or people who live close to other creatures.

One cannot say that humans have a typical personality, since they are so many and live in so many countries. If one is to say something about the humans in Morania it would be that many are fearful and predujiced towards foreign creatures, since there has been wars in this country quite often.

Family
The family is built around a central father figure who rules the house, a mother, their offspring and servants (depending on wealth).

The family has this idea of family structure from the kingdom of the gods, where it is believed that Curator is the highest god and since he is male, the human male is also the leader of the family. Next to him are other male family members (adults) and next to them the mother. Next to her are the children and servants.

Human females usually only get one child at a time, while two or more are seen – they rarely survive more than a few weeks. Generally speaking, the family is tightly bonded and it is a high honour to be a part of a family and to protect it. When a woman marries she moves into the husband’s family, unless she is of a higher class than the male to begin with.

Royal and noble family
Not all humans in Néveri are arranged like this, but in Morania a monarch reigns – Cael Stormblade. Next to him are his council, usually consisting of magicians, and next to them are the nobility, who live in the entire kingdom. This nobility consists of both men and women with different titles which signals power (lords, barons, etc.) Furthermore, the king has an army under him and some nobles also have private armies, which they in case of war can rent out to the king.

The area
Humans inhabit many places and I will therefore begin by describing my own home country – Morania, or what part of it that king Stormblade rules. Generally it is an open area, without much forest and most places without too high hills and too deep valleys. There are roads connecting the major towns, but if one wants to visit the smaller villages and farmsteads, one has to use the paths of the animals or simply the fields.

The land is bright and kind, inhabited by good natured people. One has to be careful to wander unknown areas, especially after dark. This is not due to the humans who live here, but all the other creatures...

The land is warm from around May-September and cold from November-February. The other months the temperature varies. Once in a while there are earth quakes and foul weather, but not any hurricanes or floodings from the ocean. The climate is like its inhabitants mixed but without extremes.

The soil is also mixed. Most of Morania can be used for farming, however there are small swamp- and wetlands. Beaches are found at the coastline, and at some larger lakes. Snow is found in most of northern Morania, but only between December-February.

Animals and other small creatures
The largest animals in Morania are bears and wolves, the smallest are insects and other vermin. There are also deer, foxes, elks (in the northern parts), badgers, horses (not wild ones), any forms of birds... Well, all the animals known to our climate. Obviously there are no fable creatures, which are claimed to have muzzles more than a meter long, or horns on their snouts. One has to use one’s common sense!
