Preface
Once again I am in Calendon whose friendly and familiar faces I have longed for during my long journey round about in Morania. More than a year on horseback, Morania is a huge country, make no mistake. This creature which fortunately also exists in our wonderous Calendon is my last chapter in this collection for now. I thank you dear reader for having followed my adventure in Morania and should you be more adventerous than me, I encourage you to travel out in Morania, where you will find all of the creatures enlisted here. Safe journey!
Written on the 3rd day in the sign of Hawkeye in the year 3453
The goblins are small creatures with green-brown skin. It is a deep, dark green which blends nicely with the dark colours of the forest, for example pine. They have long, upstanding green ears, bristling hair, which can almost be called fur and a long, pointy green nose. Their hair can be anything from middle to dark brown, black, red, and with elder goblins grey or almost white. Often they have twigs or feathers in their hair.
Their clothes are often homemade or stolen and sewn together from different parts. Many goblins wear bells and they almost always wear some sort of fur from unknowable animals on their person. They have a language amonsg themselves which consists of high pitched noises and angry snarls. A bit animal like. Generally goblins speak in high pitched, whiny and snarly voices, and when they speak the human tongue – the few who can – it is with simple words and short sentences. Usually goblins are fearful, especially towards humans and elves. They are cunning and tricky and one must not trust them in any way. They steal with both hands and feet and they run very fast when spotted. Goblins can also entertain, especially if one gives them food. One should not judge them too quickly, some are great warriors for their size, if they dare fight, and some few are mighty priests or mages, even though their magic is easily avoidable for the quick witted.
Goblins live with the orcs, whom we do not know very much about, or they live as beggars in human towns. After the world division the goblins separated into small family groups, where a strong goblin took control over a small family and protected them against enemies. Goblins will ally themselves with anybody whom they consider strong, and where they can get food. It does not matter whether it be humans, drow or whomever. Goblins will take being trampled on, both literally and symbolically as long as it is not too much. They know that they cannot demand respect from other creatures.
As far as I know goblins only get one cub at a time, twins are seen occasionally. Whether the father helps out raising the cub we do not know. Most goblins do not consider these things and when asked, they look at one with confusion and ask for food or money. Goblins steal, as I have said previously, seek shelter, do boring tasks for others and generally make trouble wherever they come. In a human town it is common that an annoying goblin is kicked across the street.
It is not known whom the goblins worship, or if they are even smart enough to worship anybody. They live in all areas of Morania where someone can look after them, or where there is someone to steal from. Goblins like other goblins and does not get along with other creatures, least of all the high elves who find their shrieking voices and wild howls detestable.
