By Bartholomaeus Zippedaeus
Professor of History
Calendon University - Year 3450

My name is Bartholomaeus Zippedaeus, I am a professor of history at the famous university of Calendon. Let me tell you about Moranias history, but to understand our lands's complex history you must first know of the signs that occurred before our land became as it is today. Long have our kingdom been plagued by mysterious deaths and devastating wars. It is my hope that this book, my life's work, can explain some of this and shed light on some of these events. Based on old legends and stories, I will try to briefly recount how our world was created, and how Morania ended up being the land it is today.

The gods of old
Long ago, before the world and the universe was created, there was only a single consciousness. His name has later become Curator, the oldest of all gods. As time passed, or perhaps did not pass, in some strange way his mind began to divide, and it ended in the creation of the five gods of Chaos. Curator, however, quickly discovered that he had made a mistake by allowing these five creatures existence, but it was not possible for him to undo what was already done. Instead, he created two other gods, those who today are known as Avia and Avus. Curator now had two helpers against the Chaos gods destructive behavior and together the three gods managed to banish the Chaos gods to a place legends call 'The Nothing' where ever that might be. But the three gods now felt that something was missing, the five gods of Chaos had after all been a part of the universe, and their absence threatened it all to collapse. It was now the three agreed to create the young gods.

The young gods
In this way the twelve gods we know today as Fayon, Nisara, Sheeka, Aerth, Eresir, Kimo, Talno, Oplulantas, Rahnee, Eyes, Yun and Mikan. These younger gods got the better of it with the three elder gods, who were happy with their new 'family'. But over time these gods began to grow bored, there is not much to do when the world does not yet exist. Which of the youngest gods came up with the idea of the world, is not known. Maybe it was all of them? It probably does not matter, main thing is they decided to create our world, fortunately for us.

The creation of the world
So the twelve gods created the universe, with stars and the sky and our flat planet as we know it. This world was perfect, and thanks to Aerth, quickly filled with lush plants. Fayon was the one who gave our world its sun, and that was what made Nisara really angry. She tried hard to destroy the sun, she wanted a world of darkness, though the other gods loved the light. Luckily Curator stopped her, and we can thank him for that. He determined that half of the day should be light and called day, and the other half dark and called night. Nisara became so angry from his decision that she made the earth tremble, and thereby created the mighty mountain ranges and canyons. Then she turned her back to the others and descended into the darkness along with her daughter, Sheeka. This was the first time the gods had quarreled and it casted a shadow over the paradise. Eresir especially felt that something was missing, and therefore one morning went into one of the great forests to be left alone for a while. He created a small flute of tree and began to play on it, and in some strange way beautiful animals came leaping from this flute's tones. Eresir was happy when he saw all these animals, and played beautiful and amazing melodies all day long. Even Nisara came to hear the melodies, but her anger made Eresir's tones dark, and towards evening some animals came from the tones of the flute that were only thinking of evil and cold. Eresir became angry when he discovered Nisara's interference, and he cursed her evil creatures. The animals that had been created in the day went into the woods, and Nisara took her dark creatures with her away from the spot.

The creation of the races
Fayon saw how Eresir created all the animals, and he too wanted to create a race. Inspired by the bright sun, he had already produced, he created a clean and light breed, the elves. When the other gods observed Fayon's creatures, they saw that they were good creatures, and together the ten gods now created the dwarves and men to also populate the world. All the races lived in peace with each other except the orcs, who gathered into groups. But otherwise things went well in the young world, and the gods enjoyed the attention they received from their worshipers.

A shadow over the paradise
As time passed the shade of paradise grew longer, disease and death appeared, and the races grew slowly farther apart. Even with the elves difficulties arose, and finally when the dark elves was exiled and later took refuge with Nisara, the shadow grew to genuine darkness. Quietly, the internal relationships between the gods grew worse and worse.

The war of the gods
Fayon saw this shadow first and was saddened by the cruelty suffered by the world, and he therefore tried to reconcile self with Nisara. But she rejected him, and Fayon returned angry to his worshipers. When they sensed his anger they rose as a mighty army, and went to Nisara's dark land to kill her. But Nisara had created her own army and was ready to meet the enemies. When the elves saw the terrible dark elves, they attacked without waiting for Fayons orders, and the gentle forest creatures were also blinded by anger when they saw the night creatures. This war was truly terrible, it was the worlds first war, and the only war the gods participated in. This war began in 2179 and raged with more or less full strength until 3120 Naturally, there were no fights all the time, but there was never peace. Hundreds of generations lived and died under the threat of war. This war strengthened the power of Chaos, and ultimately weakened the very prison, that Curator, Avia and Avus had imprisoned the Chaos gods inside. This forced the elder gods to do something drastic to save the world before Chaos escaped and destroyed the universe itself.

Division of the world
So the three oldest of gods met, and saddened reached the decision that there was only one thing to do. For the first time since the beginning of time, they gathered their powers, and directed it against our fragile planet. The mighty force of the gods hammered down toward the continent, and divided it in half, exactly in the place where two great armies were preparing for battle. This new chasm created earthquakes, floods, new mountain ranges, and claimed many victims. The gap which cuts through Moranias eastern edge is the place where the gods force struck first. All this of course created incredible confusion and horror, but the result was what the gods had wanted: All the armies were divided, with the enormous mountain ranges and the new world seas it was no longer possible for either party to go to war against each other, and thus the world was saved from Chaos' ravaging. Now the world was divided into eight parts, and the youngest gods realized how wrong they had acted. They agreed to leave the world and only physically appear if their worshipers really needed them. The one who did not abide to this rule, were Nisara and her daugther, Sheeka, which both retreated underground with her dark elves, and never since surfaced again. It was now the races' own task to build new kingdoms.

The year is 3450 and I, Bartholomaeus Zippedaeus have completed my life's work.
