This is Paq’s book, translated and put online. There are no dates in the book, and so there will be no dates in this text either. Every time there is a !...! it means that there is an unreadable part. It can be a single letter, several words or sentences. Usually it’s because that particular part is blotted out by blood... If anything is in parenthesis (example) it means the word is unreadable, but it’s my guess of what was originally there. Any time there is a double line (an open space without text) it means there is a new paragraph in the text. I hope this can be interesting, despite its length. It does mean that the book will have reached ‘immortality’ – now also in an English translation.
Paq’s background story – written from her own point of view
((If the reader wants an explanation of Paq and/or of events stated here, one is always welcome to contact Jaric.))
Greetings friend or foe, known or unknown. Whoever you are, I hope you have the ability to read and understand this language. I wanted to write this text in the beautiful elven tongue, but I have yet to master its written form.
I am in the forests of Camrynn while writing this. It is spring, the year is 3451. This place may look peaceful, but don’t let yourself be fooled! Down by the slow spring lays the drow’s entrance to the Underdark and somewhere in the peaceful elven forest was Therian’s former hideout. Morania found its long lost King in these proud woods, but even he did not put a stop to chaos. Noone can. Chaos will rule these woods, this town, this country, and all countries when the time is right. But enough of my dire forebodings.
I write this text to tell of my life... Before it’s too late. Many, and too many, have heard mention of me, or seen my picture on posters around the country. I am Paq, Wolf, the woman who they say murdered her family and stole the King’s tax money from Camrynn. Wanted in all of Morania for ‘high treason against the throne’. It sounds formidable, does it not?
But now I will tell of what really happened, tell everything from my viewpoint. Not in an unjust court, not with a knife against my throat, but in peace here in my hideout in the woods of Camrynn. Here, where I can tell the whole story without interruptions. Without lies.
My story began in the year 3427. It was spring in Calendon, the capital itself, when I was born. My mother was named Rose, and was married to one of the mightiest merchants in Calendon: Iman Forestvale. You didn’t think I came from some insignificant peasant family, did you? I am of the nobility – or I was once.
As a child I was closest to my father; I spent a lot of time in his shop and saw many of the more significant people in Calendon. I also learned at a young age how to behave in noble circles. My mom often took me to the city square so I could learn how ordinary people lived, and so I could see the poor. Back then it bored me to death; I couldn’t stand being at a place filled with so simple people. Today I thank both of them for having shown me so much and taught me so much about people. Without that knowledge I hadn’t been alive today. I still honor their memory...
But as stated, my childhood was well. I spent a lot of time with my father, but today I have nothing to remember him by. The only thing he gave me is the nickname I sometimes use: Wolf. Otherwise I only have the necklace my mother gave me, a rose surrounded by a heart. It symbolizes her love to me, and I always carry it near my own heart.
When I was seventeen years old I met the love of my life. I thought Omnije was everything I ever wanted. I was young and foolish. We were engaged the next year. My father stalled the engagement, which I furiously resisted. I didn’t understand him. Today I know he did it to protect me. He began training me with the dagger and sword. He wasn’t a skilful fighter, but he taught me enough to get me by.
Four years passed and my father’s wealth and power grew. Finally he was the richest merchant in all of Calendon, except for Raiko, a nasty noble merchant who didn’t want any sort of competition. My father had always spoken badly about Raiko, for as long as I can remember. Those two hated each other with a passion.
When I had turned seventeen… or was it eighteen? I no longer remember. Anyway, I often went to the square alone, and one day I met this young man in the King’s service. He couldn’t have been more than a boy at the time. That is Nefoks, a warrior you may know if you have been in Calendon in the last couple of months.
But the only thing I did was talk to him... Now I wish I had never met him!
When I turned twenty three my life changed dramatically. It was a day like any other; I had trained with my father, taken a walk around the city and even greeted some of the other noble youngsters in Calendon, whom I knew well. I had seen Omnije on my way home, but he did not greet me.
When I came home and the sun set, I lay down to sleep. I had once again asked my father why he had postponed our engagement, but he had refused to answer me.
In the middle of the night a scream woke me up. I hurried up and grabbed my sword, which is always standing next to my bed.
I ran into the hallway, and into my parents’ bedroom, where I found them both dead, bathed in blood in their beds...
This brings back bad memories, so I will not dwell on it.
When I turned around, sword in hand, I was met by my parents’ murderer. It was a short fight, I was unprepared and in shock. I felt cold steel against my throat and had already prepared myself to join my parents, when my enemy spoke to me. My blood turned to ice in my veins and my heart stopped beating, when I heard his voice:”And now it is complete, my love.” Then he laughed.
Omnije, of all people! I couldn’t say a word, not a thought ran through my head. I can still hear his voice inside my head…
He continued to speak:”Your father knew this would happen, Paq. Raiko does not like competition. And I offered to remove the competition for him.”
“Why?” was all I could say.
Omnije’s voice turned angry. “I know how you have checked out that soldier at the square! But if you rather want him than me…” He stopped speaking, and I realized with dread what I had done. If I had never met Nefoks, Omnije would never have killed my parents.
“But I don’t think he’ll want you, Paq. Who wants to be engaged to a murderer?”
He released me and I fell to the floor, unable to move. That was the last time I saw him.
At first I didn’t understand what he meant with ‘murderer’ but I was soon to find out.
The next morning, when my father’s store did not open, some of his costumers came upstairs and found me. They immediately thought I was the killer, since I was still on the floor clutching my sword.
Then I realized what Omnije had meant. They had already called for the city guard, and I managed to flee into my room, where I grabbed my dagger and a cape, and then I jumped out the window. I walked along the walls of the houses to the outer edge of the city, and when darkness fell I snuck out the gate.
At first I wandered around aimlessly, not knowing what I wanted or what to do. I don’t know how much time went by since the days mingled together. But anyways, after a few days I reached Camrynn: a small coastal village surrounded by woods. Here I got a job as a mercenary because the tax money had to be brought to Calendon. I soon realized that I at least wasn’t wanted in Camrynn so I decided to settle here, when I had earned enough money.
We set out with the money, me and four others, all men. We had only travelled for a day when a group of orcs attacked us. We all fought as well as we could, but the orcs killed the other soldiers and destroyed the chest with the money.
I nearly got hit by the last orc when an elven woman saved me. Her name was Mai’Lee and I still honor her memory…
We didn’t get along well to begin with, but she did help me hide the money somewhere safe in the woods of Camrynn. And then we set out for Calendon.
I learned much from Mai’Lee. She taught me some elvish and how to survive in the woods and to hunt wild game. Without her help, I wouldn’t have been able to live by myself now. She helped me cope with my loss.
When we reached Calendon we went into town, me disguised as a man and she as a human woman. We got an audience with the King, Fellon Ironfist, when I told them it concerned the tax money.
“Your Majesty,” I formally began.
“Get on with it,” he interrupted me angrily. The King and I did not get off on a good start.
“The tax money from Camrynn did not reach Calendon. Orcs attacked us, Your Majesty,” I continued and did my best to hide my irritation. “I was the only survivor.”
The King got quite mad at this point and I will not waste my expensive paper writing down what he said. “The only thing I want now is my payment, Your Majesty,” I said then. I did not mention that the treasure – and I call it a treasure, since there was an astonishing amount of gold – was still safe. I was angry and irritated with the King and I wanted to test him. And sure enough, he refused to pay me as long as he didn’t get the money.
I apologized for not having done my job and then I left! Away from the city with Mai’Lee, and I haven’t been there since.
When we returned to Camrynn, the King had unfortunately travelled there as well. He held a tournament to celebrate something which I have forgotten. So much has happened, you understand. But the orcs attacked Camrynn during the tournament and the King disappeared. Mai’Lee and I had to fight our way through the orcs to reach the town and we got to the gate unscathed.
Oh, the memory of it still makes me angry! The humans in Camrynn were afraid to open the gate, as they thought the orcs would get in. As a result, Mai’Lee was chopped down, a few meters from safety. She did not survive. The humans only then opened the gate and dragged me inside. My arm was injured, but they healed me instantly. But they had abandoned my friend. I was angry, but I also wished to go on living, so I began fighting the orcs with the inhabitants.
But it was soon apparent to us all that the orcs would win. Since there was no commander in town I took control and gathered the last few soldiers. We fled for the coast, to the place where the village of Camrynn was finally stable, at least for a while.
On our way to this new hideout I let the band of soldiers go on ahead, so I was alone on the path. Here I met another elf, a cleric named Eido. He wasn’t very experienced and his opinions didn’t suit me, but he could cover my back so I quickly made friends with him. It helped me not to think of Mai’Lee.
When we reached the last inhabitants from Camrynn they had made a sparse camp and lit a huge fire to keep the cold and the orcs out. I thought I would finally get a calm night here, but I was wrong. This was the first time I met Therian’s wolves.
Eido and I had almost reached this camp when I heard something from the dark woods. I hid behind a tree and Eido threw himself on the ground. The things which approached us were something I had never seen before. They looked like humans or elves, but they sniffed the air and growled at us.
I stood paralyzed behind the tree and one of those wolves came so close that I could feel its warm breath on my neck.
But they did not notice us - apparently we had hid ourselves well. As soon as they were gone I yanked Eido up and we ran towards the fire.
I spent the next many hours listening. The wolves howled in the woods and with each howl I grew more and more paranoid.
In the middle of the night, when it had been silent for a short while, Eido and I began to relax. We had spent most of our time back to back but now we were next to each other by the fire. That was an obvious mistake. Suddenly Eido fell to the ground without a word. He had been stabbed in the back by Therian himself. Fortunately a cleric who worshipped Curator was present and he succeeded in bringing back Eido from the kingdom of the dead. But Eido was never the same; he became more and more withdrawn and fearful. Therian’s influence is horrific and cruel and none of us can avoid it if we have been too close to it. That was the first time Therian tried to ruin my life and it wasn’t to become the last…
The night passed without further attacks, at least for me and Eido, and the humans began building a new Camrynn.
The nobles in Calendon sent several knights to the area to find the king but all in vain. More and more time went by between Eido’s visits and today he has disappeared with the other elves.
I had lived halfway in Camrynn and halfway in the woods around the city where I met both orcs and elves. Both races taught me a lot and I am grateful to all those I met - especially the orc leader Krumsnik who saved my life on multiple occasions.
Shortly after Camrynn had been reestablished; the nobles put up a wanted poster. Twenty gold pieces for my capture! The poster merely read “High treason against the throne”. That helped me out somewhat since nobody knew about the treasure. I was caught four times during the next month, but each time I escaped by promising them the treasure. At last I failed. A wizard with approximately twelve human followers forced me to show him the treasure. He hid it and I have not seen it since. But I know that it’s still kept in the woods of Camrynn, and some day I could run into it again, couldn’t I?
I also met a human whom I instantly sympathized with. His name was Dofok, he was an assassin and a good one at that. We got along fine. I still honor his memory…
Those times when I couldn’t persuade the humans to leave me be; Krumsnik came and saved me. That only backfired when the elves threatened to kill me because I sympathized with the orcs. I finally succeeded making peace with the elves’ leader Hamster, but by then I had decided that Camrynn wasn’t the home I was looking for. There were too many problems for me there.
So in months I wandered across Morania and spent most of my time with the elves. I learned their beautiful language and practiced all twenty four hours of the day. That is the reason why I speak it fluently today, and it is a language I very much love to speak.
At last I returned to Camrynn. Something about the place drew me there: apparently it was to be the place where I spent my life.
When I came back I was relieved to find out that even though the bounty was raised to more than fifty gold pieces, no one in Camrynn particularly cared. I could be at the inn and in town without any trouble. The woods were almost empty so I stayed in town. I had the feeling the wolves were on their way back. After having been so close to Therian, I tell myself that I can feel his presence.
And true enough; a few days later I met the wolves at the inn. I cursed myself for having gone back but I couldn’t get out of town. Some magicians in town claimed that Chaos priests had made a seal around the area which imprisoned us with the wolves. I tried to stay on their good side and thanks to my great talking skills they let me live. Then our beloved king returned. He came wandering into town one day, completely unaware of who he was. I kept to the woods just to be safe so I was never that close to him.
But still I heard the anguished howls from the wolves that autumn morning when he banished them back to the darkness of the Nothing.
And when the king thought that all was safe in Camrynn he travelled to his capital and hasn’t come back since. Hah! If only he knew that Therian has long since returned to Morania. Fortunately, he’s not here but it won’t be long before he arrives. Camrynn has always been my home and I’m beginning to think it’s also his.
But when the wolves were banished it was quiet for a while. I met different people at the inn but never someone whom I talked to for any long period of time.
It changed one day though, when I met the elf Keinar. His story touched something in me and awoke those feelings I no longer thought I had. I felt compassion for him and this time it wasn’t an act as it had been so many times before. I let Keinar get a view of my soul and he is still the only one I would trust with my life.
I was surprised one day at the inn. My old friend Dofok had returned and I quickly began talking to him again. We had never been friends in that sense but we had an agreement to help each other out and such an agreement is rarely made. I quickly discovered that Therian once again tried to destroy my life, which at the time was a huge surprise. Dofok had changed and had become a great magician. He told me that Therian wasn’t locked in Nothing as the king and everybody else had believed but that he was well on his way to break free again. And Dofok had been chosen by Therian to be his earthly body. That meant, in short, that Dofok’s soul would be crushed and that I would lose my friend.
I was angry and I wanted to put an end to Therian’s plans. I stabbed Dofok in his belly and came quite close to killing him. But he used his magic to make himself stronger and then he broke the hand my dagger was in. I think it’s more correct to say that he crushed the hand.
Our friendship was strong enough so that he let me live in spite of it. Shortly after he disappeared but if I ever meet him again, it will no longer be him but Therian. A short while later I met one of the Chaos priests up close. He had put the inn on fire, not that I understand why. He gave me a healing potion which cured my hand, in the hope that I would fight him. But I withdrew to the woods where I have lived since. Even though my hand was healed by this Chaos priest I still carry a bandage around it to remember my friend by. And every time I think of Therian, the pain returns. He affects all who are close to him. He affects me.
When the inn burned down the inhabitants of Camrynn moved farther into the woods. The city had been too exposed during the winter, the wind and cold was too violent. Perhaps they also tried to hide from the powers of darkness…
When the inhabitants withdrew they let Camrynn be and the city quickly transformed to ruins. I often go there in remembrance of old days and spend hours in deep melancholy. Even though I’ve only been here for a year, I’ve experienced more death and destruction than what’s healthy for a human soul.
I spent the winter in the woods and even though it was cold it was still manageable. I had Keinar for company during the winter and it helped me heal some of the wounds in my soul.
I remember one winter’s day when Keinar led me to one of his holy places in the woods. He showed me a water hole which to me looked quite ordinary. But he uttered a spell in the elven tongue and the water showed me what I had longed to know for a long time: Where Omnije was. I will not reveal anything now, since no one can know whose hands this text will fall into. But I saw where he was and when I’m ready I’ll leave and confront him with the truth. And then I might earn some peace for my soul?
Keinar left for a while and once again I felt lonely. I spent a lot of time at the inn but time went slowly.
I was shocked one day when the snow was beginning to melt and spring announced its arrival.
A huge group of warriors left Camrynn and naturally I wanted to know who they were and where they were headed. I later learned that they had been hunting a couple of Chaos worshippers, or that’s what I remember…
But that doesn’t matter, the important thing is that the leader of this group was a man I hadn’t seen in a long while: Nefoks. At first I avoided him but I couldn’t help but spy on him. I have always been curious by nature.
At one point he was wounded and I got hold of a cleric to heal him. I had thought that I could just disappear into the woods again, but this cleric asked me a question which confirmed my suspicions: Therian apparently felt an obligation to destroy my life, and he tried quite hard.
The cleric demanded to see my face. When I asked him why, he said: “I’ve heard the wolves are in this area. Their leader, the horrible god Therian, supposedly wears a green cape, like yours! Show me your face!”
I sighed irritably. Therian, in the same cape as I? He could only have done it on purpose.
I drew my hood back and showed the cleric my face. The wolves have a rather special sign on one or the other cheek, and since I didn’t have it, the cleric let me leave.
But by then Nefoks had awoken and he wished to speak with me. But I didn’t trust him. He was in Stormblade’s service and who says he hadn’t come to capture me? He claimed that he had come to keep an eye on town for the king and during the next month I slowly began trusting him. I still couldn’t forget that if I had never met him, my parents would still have lived.
Spring arrived in Camrynn a month after this incident. The snow melted away and the sun began to shine. On one of these warm spring evenings I had just had a conversation with Keinar and I was on my way home. On the ground I found a rare amulet, made of silver and formed somewhat like a hammer. It was beautiful, and I immediately placed it in my belt to keep it safe. It was mine now! What I didn’t know was that this day would change my life in Camrynn radically.
The humans had built a small village around a temple dedicated to Eresir, during the winter. They felt it gave them more protection than the village near the coast had done. This village was governed by four people: the druid who the temple belonged to, a goblin whose name I don’t know, a human I suspect of being a thief, or a former thief, and then a Drow. A cleric of Nisara’s if you would believe it.
I had grown rather curious with this council so I went to this new Camrynn again and was also let in without any trouble. I greeted Nefoks briefly before this Drow contacted me.
He had also found an amulet! We both felt that there was a third one somewhere and we both wished to find it.
Even though Drow claimed he wanted peace I was convinced that he was hiding something, though I couldn’t say what. I thought about it for a while until some dwarves came to the village. They sought the amulets and claimed they belonged to them. They had a necklace which neutralized our amulets.
I decided to help them get the amulet from Drow to gain their trust, but unfortunately Nefoks disrupted my plan. He revealed to the council that I had one of the amulets and of course they no longer trusted me. I was very upset with him but I can see now that he did the right thing. He was my friend and I should have told him.
But the council accused me of disrupting the peace in the village. I was trapped and had no other choice but to hand the amulet over to the priest so that I would go free. That made me even more upset and it stopped me from thinking clearly. I made Nefoks an enemy which I bitterly regret. My temper has cost me a friendship.
After having handed over my amulet I left town. I found Keinar and warned him of these amulets so he wouldn’t be hunted by the villagers for possessing one of them. We talked for a while and then separated. I haven’t seen him since.
I returned to the village anyway, I could not stay away. My curiosity has always caused me trouble. Drow was missing and the priest began to think that Drow wasn’t as sincere as he’d let us to believe. A group of mercenaries were looking for him and toward the end of the afternoon they found him.
I talked to him unnoticed and he returned the dwarves’ amulet to them. The priest kept his, unwilling to give it up. How I understand him!
Everything seems well now, but I still fear for my life. That is the reason I write this. Both Drow and Nefoks want me dead, I fear, and I don’t know how many days I have left. But no matter what might happen, this text has been preserved, as an everlasting memory of Paq Forestvale Lonewolf, who some call the Wolf. I have told you my entire story, without leaving very much out. What has been left out; was left out to protect certain people. You now know the truth about me, and this paper may explain why I have done the things I’ve done. Safe journey now, friend or foe, known or unknown. Always remember that the tongue is sharper than the sword.
Paq Forestvale Lonewolf – Wolf
Camrynn, 3451
It is still puzzling to me how I’m able to write this. A few weeks ago I feared for my life, and now all threats have disappeared, faster than I thought possible. A group of barbarians have killed Nefoks when they attacked the village. My friend is gone forever, and even though he had become my enemy, there is still an empty place in my heart. I still honor his memory…
And Drow… I still cannot understand him, and it has kept me awake this entire night. Where shall I begin?
I met him yesterday and he seemed upset and more threatening than he has been before. I talked myself out of the situation and got him his mighty amulet back. He swore to protect me in return and he kept his promise. I could trust him, as much as anyone can trust a drow. No matter what, I had my back covered and I helped him to negotiate with the barbarians. Everything went along as it was supposed to.
But as the sun drifted across the sky, Drow grew more and more silent. He seemed crestfallen, as if the power of the amulet no longer was enough. I should have known by then!
He met a new coming priest, who also worshipped Nisara. He followed this priest to his temple, and I followed them at a distance. I stayed outside of the temple, because I sensed that Drow was hiding something from me. I didn’t completely trust him, though I now know that I should have. He never would have harmed me!
I had some notion of his plans, but I did not interfere. Again a mistake. Suddenly I heard a scream from the temple. I shouted and ran in there, but too late. Drow lay dead, and the priest refused to let me do anything. I did not know how powerful this priest was, so I obeyed him. He explained that Drow had sacrificed his life as thanks to Nisara. I see it as a waste and a suicide, and not as a sacrifice… He was a mighty cleric and one of few citizens in Camrynn mighty enough to be my ally. And then he allows himself to be killed!
I don’t think it was entirely his decision. Therian has once again interfered with my life by taking both Nefoks and Drow away from me on the same day. You may think me paranoid or a liar, but it’s the truth. Therian wants to destroy my life, though I don’t know why.
The treats against me are gone, but so is my only ally, along with my childhood friend. I feel more alone than I have for a long time, and Keinar is still gone. I don’t even know when he’s coming back, or if he ever will.
I have considered these events for a long time and have reached a final conclusion. Therian is trying to take over this world, as I have always said, but now I no longer intend to let him. He won’t have Camrynn, or Morania, or this world. I pray to my gods as often as possible, trying to gain the same powers as Drow had. I know it’s possible, and I know I can succeed. It is just a matter of time! If Therian returns to Camrynn, which I think he will do this fall, I will be there to oppose him. I will not allow him to murder anymore of my friends. But I have to stop writing now; I am tired after a sleepless night.
Once again I’m sitting here, watching the ocean… The sun has almost set and another eventful day has passed. It’s even better than I dared hope for. The priest has returned, but has unfortunately already left again, though only for a short while, and this is most fortunate. I have become his apprentice, so that I too can learn the strange arts of magic. I can feel the gods’ powers in me now; I have finally gained the power which Drow also possessed, though in a much lesser degree than him of course. There is also a mighty cleric left in Camrynn after all. He saved both me and the priest’s life and for that I am eternally grateful. Two knights have also come to this place. Twins even, and with the priest gone they rule in Camrynn. They wanted my help to control the town and of course I consented. And best of all: Keinar is back in Camrynn! I met him today and was overjoyed that he is finally back. And Therian… Now I almost have enough power…! Finally – a short while and I am ready… I know I’ll be ready. I’ll write again when there is more news.
More than a week has passed. I am a part of the Council, at least for a while, so they don’t want me wandering alone in the woods of Camrynn. So now I live in the town, at least as long as I am in the Council – although I already miss the freedom the woods give me…
(Inserted letter) ’Come to town, with all men capable of fighting. If we are to win this war we need both you and anybody else we can get. I beg of you, come and help us win peace! – Bass Aci, healer and pathfinder.’
As this letter shows many chaotic things have happened in Camrynn. The tax money was stolen from me and the thieves then sent every assassin in the area to kill me. The thieves have been caught now after several battles. But that is not important.
Keinar has told me many important things now and enlightened me on both this and that. I cannot repeat it here, it is too important, but it concerns Therian. We have gotten more important information to use in the battle against him.
Oh, if only the druid would return… I need the knowledge he possesses, and the forces he has. Now the sun sets over Camrynn and I still need to do so much. May my gods give me strength!
I’m not quite sure how to write this and since I’m rather shocked my writing will show signs of it. I’ve just met Therian… How incredible it may sound. And I didn’t get a single injury.
Suddenly he was standing in front of me in the forest. He resembled Dofok so much it pained me! He said not to fear – ironic. But he told me an important detail: He only has two wolves at present – ’Siran’ and ’Koji’. And then the most amazing thing happened… For a few seconds my old friend’s soul took over Therian’s body and he spoke to me! It hurt so bad hearing his voice again. ‘The day Therian is destroyed the elements will rage, but they will be trapped for millennia…’ and then he said ‘Remember these words, dear Paq. This might be my last chance to tell you the future, as a friend and not an enemy. Be well, Paq.’
And then he was gone and Therian was in control again. I cannot stop crying at the thought of it. Therian also revealed that Keinar is more important than I’ve thought so far… Therian fear him! I must find my friend and tell him this! But the sun is setting and I must be inside the walls of Camrynn before nightfall. May the gods give me strength!
I’ve finally found Keinar and told him everything. We spoke for a long while, but there was much to talk about. I am still frustrated and tired of waiting. What am I even waiting for? I’m not certain and the thought scares me. The weather reflects my mood quite well – foggy, dark, cold, sinister, difficult to find one’s way. The knights’ priest has returned – no one knows where he’s been but he’s here now. Priest… of Curator…
And I fear that Eresir’s priest, the man who would teach me magic, is now lost. He has been gone for so long, maybe Therian killed him? Darkness will settle over Camrynn in just a few hours and I fear for the future of the town – for MY future. Right now I’m at the inn waiting for Flys. Fliro is not in town – I don’t know exactly where he is. I also met Keinar yesterday and for once slept in the woods – it was quite peaceful. And Flys is beginning to believe me now, believe that Therian was actually here. That is what I’ve been hoping for, for so long. But now Flys is here. I will write more another time. May the gods give me strength!
Rain has fallen over Camrynn the entire day and with the rain came evil things. I don’t know if it’s just my imagination or if it truly happened, but somehow I met one of Therian’s wolves – one who knew my name!
I knew I had heard ‘Siran’ before. It was he who was here – and yet wasn’t. I don’t know how he did it… But he recognized me and almost attacked me, when a wave of water came from nowhere and flushed him away. Now I’m sitting in the village, afraid of what’s next… May my gods give me strength!
I’m once again in my house to write. But mostly I wish to go to the forest again to find Keinar, because I bitterly regret the words I said to him. And my hand is hurting me more than ever – and the dagger is still here. What are we to do? May the gods give me strength!
’Greetings Paq. You wollen snart sehen mig again. You oder jemand nær ved you wollen be mein next ulv. Therian’
If you read the previous page you may know why I’m in the following will write somewhat incoherently. You can have the translation here:
‘Greetings paq. You will soon see me again. You or someone near you will be my next wolf. Therian.’
I will try and begin with this morning even though it’s difficult as I’m still rather horrified. Right now the sun is setting and I’m in the woods where darkness is falling.
But this morning I woke early due to the pain in my hand. After a few hours I walked out of our residence, and was suddenly hit by a horrible pain which still haunts me. I closed my hand to minimize the pain, but it only got worse and I fell down on my knees. When I opened my hand blood spurted out from my hand and down on the ground. Still !...! the hand covered by blood and !...! not yet healed.
I then spotted a man who had just entered town. His face was almost covered by a hood but I could see a horrible wound he had on one cheek. Naturally it was Therian, but I wasn’t sure of that until some hours later. The next thing that happened I don’t entirely remember, but I know that I refused the healer to heal my wound – it would not have lasted long anyway.
I went to the forest !...! Keinar – but it !...! not! I found h(im)!...! later. I wished !...! des(perately)!...! to find him, but !...! I will write of lat(er). I went back to C(amrynn)!...! tried to heal the wound, !...! but my gods did not answer me. Therian said that… Oh n(ow) I’m jumping ahead in time (a)gain. After that I once more went out to search for Keinar, but I met Therian instead. I can still feel the fear in my body when I think back on it, his presence is… indescribable. There is no word for it.
One of the soldiers of the city would (force) this ‘blind beggar’ whom Therian resembled, to go back to the village. To save his life I went closer and persuaded the soldier to leave. Suddenly I was alone facing Therian. He walked towards me and I tried to retreat, but quickly wound up with my back against a tree. He walked all the way towards me, so close I could feel his breath. He said he had come because of all the things I had written ((see ‘poems’ in a later post)) and then he said that Keinar was in Nora Garûn. I don’t know if it’s true yet. He wanted my book and the details concerning Siran’s ‘visit’. Then he left, leaving me blind in the woods. I cried for help and a friendly peasant lead me back to town. I tried to leave several times to find Keinar, but to no avail. In the meantime someone had found the druid’s book, and it seems he has left for good…
Therian suddenly came back to town and I only just managed to hide my book behind my back. He brought Siran’s dagger and he threw it by Curator’s temple. I only just managed to stop the priest from picking it up. Out of fear of what damage it would do in the wrong hands I decided to get it out of Camrynn. It caused me a lot of pain to touch it, but I did not drop it before I was out of town. I threw it at Therian’s feet and said: “You forgot this.”
I know it was stupid, which I also got to feel. He held the dagger at my throat but allowed me to leave. When I reentered town the priest and Flys wanted to speak to me. To my great surprise they almost accused me of treason because I had taken the dagger and spoken with Therian. I left in anger.
Later I went back to town, in fear of wandering the woods alone. I went out again, though, to search for Keinar, when Therian suddenly appeared. He demanded to get my book, but before I could speak I was attacked by three drows. I don’t know why they attacked me, but the second before I passed out from pain, I saw Therian protect me, much to my distress!
Several of the town’s inhabitants came, and they healed me and brought me back into Camrynn. Then Therian gave me a final warning: I could give him my book voluntarily or he would force me to. I remembered Keinar’s words, took a deep breath and said: “I will never tell, Therian. If you want this book, you have to force me!”
A second passed, before he suddenly grabbed my hand. The pain was overwhelming. I fell on my knees and then to the ground. He kneeled next to me and squeezed my hand harder. At last – at last I gave up. “Stop,” I whispered, dazed from the pain.
“Where is that book?” he asked.
Just then some inhabitants from town interfered and I fled to the woods. But I didn’t get more than 50 meters away. I had been chased into a corner, with my back against a tree, and Therian slowly took my hand and squeezed around the wound. I fell to my knees again, in pain. He drew Siran’s dagger. ”If the pain is so great now…” he said coldly and laid the blade against my hand ”then imagine losing your fingers.”
I fell down, both from pain and fear. I found my book and gave it to him. Some people came, wanting to help me get it back, but I stopped them. I staggered back to town, and a moment later Therian came, threw down the book and disappeared. I opened it and screamed when I saw that he had written something in it.
With help from Ilmarin and others we translated it and in the same second we all saw Therian approaching. Everyone thought he had come to claim me as a wolf, so they fled to the woods. I myself yelled at Therian that I would never be his, and then I ran off as well. And now I’m on my way to Calendon to tell the King everything.
But the sun has long since set and I will pray to my gods, in the hopes that they will now be able to answer me. May the gods give me strength!
My gods have answered me, but it hasn’t made me any more certain. I don’t get far each day, most of the time I either want to go back or just stay where I am. Nothing matters anymore, even if I am permitted to speak to the king. Was Therian right? Is Keinar in Nora Garûn or is he…? I don’t even dare to think of it. Could that be what he meant to say in his message? No, Keinar is too strong for that. He must have had his reasons to stay away from town – or was he staying away from me? I will stop writing now, and continue my slow journey. To what – I don’t know yet. May the gods give me strength!
It is morning now – the sun is shining. Right now I’m sitting close to Keinar. And although he sleeps, my heart is full of joy, because I have found my friend again and he has succeeded in giving me back some hope and courage. I would like to write what Keinar told me this night, but it’s better if I allow it to stay where it belongs – in our minds. The leader of this small town may be able to help us, but only time will tell – right now they seem to be planning a town feast for this evening, and that is why there are so many travelers – also some from Camrynn. Among them the cleric who saved the druid and me – but I haven’t greeted him yet. But Keinar has awoken so I will write more at a later time. May the gods give me strength!
It is evening now – the musicians are entertaining us. The leader of this town, the dutchess, disappeared and a cruel man I know from Camrynn took control. It was a rough day, but I made it through. Until this evening, that is. How shall I write this? Keinar… died. Fortunately the cleric who saved both Nefoks and the druid was in town and he saved Keinar at the last instance. But… I’m shaking… it has been hours now and he is still weak. Is Therian coming?!
It is morning now and the sun is shining on town. What happened is still not clear to me, but one thing is certain: Therian wasn’t here. But I saw him, in front of my eyes, I’m certain of that. Keinar tried to help me, but he was also weak. After some time my book disappeared and I was convinced that Therian had gotten hold of it. I ran out of the inn, with Keinar and a woman after me. I don’t remember much of it, but we ended up by the entertainers’ tent. The woman went in and came out again with my book. I staggered back to the inn and slowly got better. Now I’ve been sleeping a lot, and today I’m more or less myself again – but Keinar is still weak. And Jorodes has been promoted to duke, believe it or not – that old inn keeper…!
The last couple of days have been busy and much has happened. Keinar is fortunately himself again, Eresir be praised. But as I said, much has changed and my world is now different. I went to Calendon, by now with a larger group of followers. Keinar, of couse, and then Johan, a guard from the small town of Balon where Jorodes is now duke. The last one is the young girl Wench who might prove useful. Under cover of night we went to Calendon and by dawn I walked into town while the others waited outside, Keinar with this book. I didn’t know what awaited me inside. But what happened is still difficult for me to understand. I spoke to the captain of the guards and got an audience with Stormblade himself. I don’t think I have to write down our conversation, except for the two most important things: I am free again and no longer wanted! Secondly the king has sent priests and magicians out in all of Morania to find out where Therian and his two wolves are hiding. So my mission succeeded! I’m finally getting my hopes up. I’ve also gotten a letter from both Ralf and Tara, the situation in Camrynn is worsening and we must get back soon I feel. The contact with Balon is easier to uphold, the city is calmer than Camrynn. May the gods give us strength!
I don’t know if I should write this, if this book should fall into the wrong hands, but it’s necessary if the right people are to know the truth. It is still difficult to understand, and I don’t yet know why it happened, but the fact is that Dofok has returned. Not Therian in Dofok’s body, but Dofok himself! How it happened is still unclear to me, but I’m certain it’s him. I helped a cleric from Calendon resurrect him, so now I’ve gotten my friend back, against all odds. He is not quite himself again yet, he is weak and all the powers he once had are gone. But all that doesn’t matter, because my friend is back, with even more information than any other living being. While Therian possessed his body he let Dofok’s soul stay, with the result that almost all of Therian’s knowledge somehow got passed along to Dofok. As stated, it is a mystery to me why and how this could be done, but the main thing is that he’s alive, and I will do anything to keep it that way. And Keinar… finally I have seen the full extent of his powers. I won’t say more of this before later on in this book, but know that the world is now more protected than it ever was before.
I was in the woods of Camrynn some weeks later and I met Bass, the healer, again. He knows who Dofok is – the short story anyhow. But the town is in trouble. Flys has begun to behave irrationally, he said, and he might turn the inhabitants against me. But then he also turns them against the King. And then the town would really be in trouble! But right now I’m at Jorodes’ inn in Balon and I’m writing after another hectic night. Dofok had a relapse, and Keinar went to Nora Garûn for help. Dofok and I’ll stay here until he returns, unless the old duke gives us any more trouble, he was here last night… May the gods give us strength!
Dofok and I returned to Camrynn for a few days anyway. Might be the gods had planned for it, might be they hadn’t. But we met an old woman who knew a lot about us. Dofok apparently knew who she was even though I didn’t. The most important event, though, was my conversation with Tara. The same thing is happening to her as happened to me, but this time we’re prepared. She doesn’t have to lose her brother, as I lost Dofok! And then Keinar has given us some important aids, 2 mirrors, so I can always contact Tara when I need (to). Yes, Keinar is back by my side and there he will stay – no matter what plans Therian might have. May the gods give us strength!
The duke has once again tried to plot against us and has in a short while evolved to a better magician than I. Fortunately Tara and I stopped his plotting. Our mirrors work as they are so supposed to, so long as Flys and Gwen don’t know about them. I wish we could take Tara with us, but we still need her in Camrynn, no matter how much it pains me to abandon her. I can still remember my own lonely winter in the woods of Camrynn – and Garath! No, I will not write any more before I am certain…
May the gods give us strength!
Once again Keinar has appeared in the last instance. You might not believe me, but it’s still the truth: I met Sündir! A meeting I would give anything to have been without. She is horrible… There isn’t anything else to say about it, and words cannot cover it. I’m now beginning to understand Keinar’s pain. No one deserves to end like that gruesome being.
Suddenly she appeared in the woods, this time before I even sensed her presence. Much of our meeting is hazy to me and some parts of it I desperately wish to forget, but I fear I will never succeed. There is no reason to write about it in detail, but a torture like the one she brings can no natural being, not even a drow, replicate. I survived long enough for Keinar to appear and I managed not to tell her anything, even though she unfortunately got hold of my book.
Now she knows Tara’s name and I must warn her as soon as possible, as soon as I’ve regained control of myself. As I said, Keinar saved me – he has finally reached his maximum powers and his optimal figure – if you understand.
But as stated, I must get hold of Tara. May the gods give us strength!
(Inserted letter)’ Paq, meet me at the library. I’ve got a surprise for you and I’ve talked to someone whom you know very well.
- Greetings, your friend, Dofok.’
Winter is soon approaching but fortunately I will not be as lonely as last year. We might’ve gotten more knowledge about the socalled ’unknown’, but no matter what I will not write it here, if this book should fall into the wrong hands (or claws) again. I have met three old friends and with them we might hope to place more pieces o this game at their rightful place. They have, among other things, confirmed my suspicions against Hamster. He is gone now, Therian unfortunately claimed his soul, though it pains me to write it. I still honor his memory…
Tara is also with us now, and will at least be safe from Therian and his beasts. May the gods give us strength!
Keinar has joined us, with a highly unexpected surprise to us all – he has a sister! Cheza is her name. She came to us with Keinar one night when we spoke of Therian, Unknown forces and other things best not mentioned here. Unfortunately the night also brought bad news which almost broke us. One of our own has been killed by the horrible creature Sündir. Fortunately Keinar was with us and that saved us all. But who knows what the future will bring? May the gods give us strength!
Once again the beast’s wolves have pestered us, and I only got away alive by pure coincidence. Siran, may he be eternally cursed, had gotten hold of Tara and infected her soul with his malice. Before I managed to perceive it she tried to stab me! I fell down, but prayers to my gods saved me at the last instant. I managed to cleanse Tara’s soul before Siran’s magic had destroyed her forever. Now we are once again apart, and I have a deepening fear of what awaits us. May the gods give us strength!
My fear was well founded. This time it was Tara’s life on the line. Once again my prayers saved us. The poor girl had run into Sündir, to avenge Badger, I think. I understand her. But Sündir almost killed her, if Tara hadn’t escaped from her claws by some highly unusual circumstances. And tomorrow we’re off for Camrynn, who knows what awaits us there? May the gods give us strength!
It is a few days ago since Tara and I left Camrynn. Mildly said, it was far worse than I had ever imagined. I had a letter from the King I was to hand over to Gwen, even though I didn’t particularly want to. Tara and I finally closed in on the holding of the Curator Order, which curiously enough lies close to the drow’s entrance. Flys was practicing with his people; it was weird seeing him again after so many months. It was a while before he saw us and his look was far from pleasant. I asked about Gwen, but Flys said he was elsewhere. To my wonder, my old friend Eruk was nearby and I gave him the letter before Flys threw us out of ‘his’ area. In short, it bothered me a lot that Flys is acting like a brain dead fool. I sought him out late in the day but after a high voiced discussion I frustratingly had to give up, or I’d have been a head shorter. And now Eruk might be in danger, since the only thing that can be pronounced in Flys’ head is ‘Chaos worshipper’. I don’t yet know what to do about it, but I’ll figure something out. May the gods give us strength!
(H)mm, my sense of direction is (not) what i(t) has been, (or) Balon isn’t where it !....! li!...! Anyway (I) wandered into (a) ruin, where I met, (let’s) sa(y), a highly interesting (per)son, wh(om) I suspect of !...! thief !...! leader – Red Star h!...! I l!...! name, what Jorodes s!...! last summer, but that doesn’t matt(er). It was exciting, and !...! becau(se) I wrote it here. Further information concerning this meeting stays between me and this man.
(Inserted letter which on the back has a drawing of a face and the word ’ONCE’) ’Paq Forestvale. You have in your possession certain objects of great value to me. I really want these objects delivered. My name is of no matter, I will contact you again when necessary.’
It’s a long time since last I wrote !...! – and long I haven’t been capable (of wr)iting. Much is still missing, and there i(s) much I don’t understand – but I’ll t(ry) and ex(plain) myself. Cheza and I went to Calen(don) a(bout) a month ago – a journey I (bitt)erly regr(et). Whatever happened – what !...! I don’t (know) – I no longer remember (it). If you’ve read this book you (know) more about me than I do. It seems that someone called ‘the Curator order’ has had great influence on my life. Even though I can only read about it now, it doesn’t mean anything to me. And then Keinar has been through a lot, according to what Cheza has told me, Siran has had his claws in him. Fortunately Siran was stupid enough to venture into Keinar’s temple – the Eresir temple, of course, and I hope we will never see him again. Right now I’m outside of Calendon, it’s late at night. Dofok is here which always makes me relax. My eyes grow watery when I think of !...! He knows it as well. I’m only awake now because a dream woke me up. A rather horrific nightmare. A dream I really hope will never become true. If anyone ever tells me that it’s impossible to feel pain in a dream, I will give them this dream. Even now I shiver when I think back on it, even on such a starry night. Starry… Oh Keinar, for how long are we to wait on seeing you again? After Cheza came is seems like Keinar is purposefully staying away from us – but that could just be my negative thoughts. We’re going back to the others soon, Dofok and I have been here for longer than we planned. I think Cheza will be mad when she hears what we’ve all gotten ourselves into. But what could we do? She would have ripped us apart… The sun will be up soon, morning is coming. May the gods give us strength!
It has been weeks since last I wrote, and both this book and I have radically changed. No one could have predicted what would happen and if we could, we wouldn’t have been able to prevent it. I don’t want to write this, but yet I feel that it’s my duty. Cheza… the beautiful Alurian, Keinar’s sister, fell to Sündir’s power. Keinar is broken and so also the rest of us. Why I even survived myself I don’t know. We still honor her memory… May Aerth be with her now!
It is June now, summer is finally here. Will it ever enter my heart though? I doubt it. Right now Tara and I are headed towards Balon in a rather dangerous errand. And back in our cabin Shadow waits – with my good will! Yes, much has changed since last, much of which none of us has been able to influence. We must go with the flow and focus on our goal – the means are less important. They justify the means – whatever those means are. May the gods have mercy on our actions!
It is midday and I’m sitting in Balon. The sun is shining and rather well reflects my good mood. Cheza is back! But the person we’re looking for isn’t here – but we hope to find him. Right now we’re waiting for Tara, wherever she is.
*
It’s Sunday evening now. This last day I wish could be deleted, be rewritten… Just do something! But what happened, happened. And the burning of the duke – alive – is of the least importance. Of the good news, Ralf is himself again. Dofok… alas, was killed first. Yet I still have his comfort – but his death has taken its toll on me. May the gods give us strength!
(Inserted letter here. On the back it says ’Paq Forestvale.’) ’14th of June in the year 3452 – Balon. Greetings Paq Forestvale. I have heard tell that you will arrive in Balon for the feast in a few days. I greatly apologize for not being able to attend the midsummer feast, but rumors from Calendon pull me away. The Avia-senate has asked me to investigate certain things connected to the library fire last fall, and I will therefore not be able to attend the feast in Balon. After last year’s events Balon has been the center of mysterious incidents, and I have a suspicion that this year’s midsummer feast again will be affected by things we don’t fully understand, and last year’s rituals could be repeated. The scouts I’ve sent from the Avia-temple to watch over Ralf have reported that they lost his trail near Calendon a few weeks ago. I fear he’s worse off than we previously thought, and I think he might be considering visiting his hometown during the feast this year. Keep your eyes and ears open, Paq, and write me at once, if you see anything.
- Bass Aci, cleric and healer of the Avia temple.’
It’s spring in Morania now… almost summer. I haven’t written in this book for a year – not since all those amazing things happened last summer in Balon. Without knowing why, I’m just… what do I know, changed? Dofok’s death was harder on me than I had expected, but it didn’t change me. Many later events have, though, and quite much. Where shall I even begin? After Balon, I guess, where I finally got Tara placed at a safe spot. It has never been my duty to look after her, to teach her. And I’m really the last one to look after anybody’s soul. I seem to have a tendency to make people worse than they are – at least I never make them better. Where Tara is I will not reveal, the answer to that question is best sought elsewhere. I have learned the hard way what happens if information from this book falls into the wrong hands. And yet I keep on writing in it, about my life and those around me. Why? That may be the question which has kept me from writing down anything for a whole year. But no matter how dangerous it may be to write here, I’ll do it anyway, in the hopes that this book may survive me, and give other warriors the knowledge they need in their lifelong struggle. But allow me to get back to last year. About a month after Tara left us, Dofok’s spirit sent me to the kingdom of the gods. What happened there, I can’t write here as a mortal. But, for whichever reason, the gods sent me back to Morania through Balon! And before I knew it, a little boy ran into me and stole my bag, my book, my money, everything. What’s worse, he stabbed me too, and before he was gone, I fell to the ground, blood streaming down my side. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t heal the wound and I thought myself lost. Then that… monk… came by. What humiliation! The memory alone makes my heart beat faster and my blood heat up. But he saved me, though in a painful way. And my things he sent to one of my worst enemies, Omnije in Calendon! Yet suddenly, he sort of changed, and he gave me a horse, so I could go on to Calendon, which I did. But Omnije wasn’t particularly cooperative, and he attacked me. I killed him in self defense, and thanks to Stormblade’s understanding mind I wasn’t held accountable.
(Inserted letter) ‘For Paq Forestvale. I don’t have much time so I will be brief. If you can, then come to Calendon immediately! There are several reasons as to why we need you here, but I cannot write them here, nor reveal who sent this letter. If you, reader, are not Paq Forestvale, then bring her this letter in all haste. May the gods give you strength!’
(Another inserted letter) ‘For Peter Forestvale. My patience, and thus my money, is almost spent. I refer here to the money, which until now have been the reason that your ‘Dear Line’ has stayed alive. Since you haven’t responded to my first letter, I am forced to make you an ultimatum. If you haven’t procured and handed over my money before midnight on the last day of this year’s festivities held in the town of Balon, I will stop sending money to your wife’s caretaker, which means I will get rid of her. Thus her life ends with that. But my search for my money will not end, and I will be forced to use harsher means. And since I know you have a large family this will not be difficult… I will be at the previously mentioned festivities myself, so that you can personally come and bring me my money. If you’re not capable of this, I will consider accepting a reliable messenger, although this person has to come alone. If I in any way see anything suggesting otherwise, I will send a message immediately and have them execute your wife. So, I will see you soon, and until then I will leave you be, and then I strongly expect seeing you, or one close to you, in Balon. Foxdale.’
Once again a year has passed since I last wrote in this book. I’ve been in doubt whether I wanted to continue writing in it, or if I should burn it and once and for all get rid of it. But it means too much for me to allow me to let it slip into the past, no matter the dangers in keeping it. Much has happened, but the year has been calm compared to others. Most of the time I’ve spent developing my abilities and getting my thoughts in order, I’ve even avoided both Keinar and Cheza, which I hope is for the best for all 3 of us. Where shall I begin? My memories are somewhat foggy, undoubtedly as a result of the Curator order dabbling with my mind once. But I will try and describe the things that have happened anyway, at least some of those which mean something. Firstly, my memories have returned. It’s somewhat jumbled, but it’s nice to know what has transpired, without me having to read it in my own book. As to my uncle, his business is going well; with the help of Padrio and Stormblade we stopped that horrible Raiko Foxdale. He’s now where he deserves to be, to the end of his days, if all goes well. It hasn’t made me rich, though, but I have no use of money in my battle. Now Padrio is part of the battle as well, but Koji was barely gone before another creature of horror appeared. I don’t know its name yet, but I already fear it. I hope to get more answers soon, which I of course will write in this book.
Morania, spring of 3454. May the gods give us strength!
(The book now contains a large amount of blank pages. The following passages are from the back of the book and usually don’t have any dates.)
The wolves – a guide
Sündir – in the days before she became a wolf she was Keinar’s lover, and her name was Kristine. How she became a wolf doesn’t matter, here I’ll only mention the most important facts. Her Chaos symbol is the wind, which means she can control this element, though not as well as Chaos priests. Her most dangerous weapon is her dagger, cursed by Therian himself. She most often appears in foggy areas.
Siran – before he became a wolf he lived in the woods of Camrynn as a hunter. His symbol is water, and he is strongest on rainy days. He can corrupt the soul, even during short contact with others.
Koji – She was a beggar and an orphan, but grew powerful when she became a wolf. Her symbol (I think) is earth. She is a magician and is very unstable and possibly more unpredictable than the others. But in November 3452 the mighty magician, Padrio Rosevale, managed to banish Koji’s soul to Nothing. I fear that something even worse than her is on its way…
September 3451
Since June this year, new and disturbing things have happened in Morania and that is what I will try and collect here. Many speak of something new in the realm – something ‘Unknown’ which might even have an ability to possess others, though not at all in the same way as for example Therian. Whether it’s a god, a demon, or just a magician I don’t know, I can only say that two people, whom I know, are already possessed by this… or that… unknown. It concerns Fliro Flamespear, once a leading warrior in Camrynn and then Ralf Ninefingers, captain of guards in the small town of Balon close to the capital. I haven’t seen Fliro after his ‘possession’ but I’ve met Ralf. His voice, his abilities and his looks were rather different than normal and both I and his sister worry about it. Whatever this ‘unknown’ is, it is… or that is… also very interested in Camrynn, since there have been reports that both of them – Ralf and Fliro – has been seen there. I soon hope to have the possibility to go to Camrynn again – naturally with Keinar and Dofok by my side.
October 3451
Alas, I haven’t been able to figure out more, besides the fact that the duke has spoken of this Unknown. Listening to him, it sounds more like a force or a god, but it’s impossible for me to say more on the subject.
November 3451
After seeking out information and discussing this for a long time I feel convinced that we’re fighting a god, even though many will disagree with me in this.
March 3452
Tara is so worried for Ralf – convinced that we have to kill him to save him! We all pray that it will never get to that.
June 3452
Much I will not write down here – I’ll only mention that Ralf is once again himself and freed of the unknown’s grasp.
Sound the bugle now... play it just for me
As the seasons change... remember how I used to be
Now I can't go on...I can't even start
I've got nothing left... just an empty heart.
I'm a soldier... wounded so I must give up the fight
There's nothing more for me... lead me away
Or leave me lying here
Sound the bugle now... tell them I don't care
There's not a road I know that leads to anywhere
Without a light, I fear that I will stumble in the dark
Lay right down and decide not to go on.
Let me sing a song of pain
let me sing a song of loss
Let me sing of fear in a heart
A heart being strangled by the wolf god
Let me sing a song of pain
let me sing a song of death
let me sing of fear, lights put out
envy, anger and sweet revenge
Let me sing of all that blinds
the thought of what confuses my mind
Let me sing of pale, cold cheeks
the icy cold laughter howling in the wind
Let me sing a song of the woman
the dagger striking in the right place
let me sing of the human, the wolf
the man who died I still mourn.
Let me sing of fear, anger
the cloud which colors my day grey
Let me sing of what kills the joy
let me sing of despair
let me sing of war, enemies
the claw and death which ends your view
Let me sing of losing friends
Life ending by Therian’s dagger
Let me shed a tear for life
Let me shed a tear for you
Let me cry for what I took for granted
Life and time spent with you.
Night in the woods, hear Therian whisper
he calls for his soul children
the sand in the time glass runs out
for all women, men and children.
*The timeglass of the world is turned
Peace and love is spurned.*
Therian is clad in night
Sharp and shiny is his weapon
reaps souls like corn
When he comes anything happens
**
Tormented souls in his wake
sucks life from living flesh
Night Wolf blindly commands
peasants, kings, priests to die.
**
Clad in war and fighting’s shadow
Therian steals your heart’s blood
when first you’re cold in your grave
it’s too late to act.
**
Night in Camrynn – a woman screams
She calls for her dead children
the sand in the time glass runs out
for all women, men and children.
*The time glass of the world is turned
Peace and love is spurned.*
Night is heavy and black
A dark silhouette of evil dreams
I see him standing black in the dark
Difficult to see but easy to know
the wild spin of thoughts
he comes when I sleep
fighting my tired mind
I’m hopeless and enchanted.
From a small place
with speed and strength painted
Therian lunges from the dream
forward, dangerous and hazy.
He lifts me from my dream
I float through the night.
He plays the game he finds the best
when he wishes to torment my soul to death.
My thoughts are a fragile web
as day and light breaks
only in my memory
is my soul still intact.
The sun slowly sets
the sky is red again
night is slowly coming
the shadows are approaching
darkness falls, night calls,
is it calling me?
Night darkness in the sky
calls the darkness over town
cold touches a leaf in the wind
I feel it against my cheek
eyes rest, death smiles,
dark wolf mind!
They wander silent without sound
creep evilly from north to south,
grace they have, cunning, wise
never alone, more than two
evil souls, they devour
EVERYTHING in the dark.
You don’t see them before you die
never see, never hear,
never saying your ’goodbye’
when the dark approach.
All souls they will steal
they rob you!
Do you think they cherish you?
Do you think they want to help?
You think them dead now?
Keep this in mind:
They are evil to the core,
and they spread fear!
Shadow falls away again,
night returns to day
Shadow creatures disappear,
the darkness was their life.
Birds are calling, day is dawning,
Not a trace we found…

Garath
Might be it has puzzled some, who this cleric is, so I will briefly here, for my own sake especially, tell a little. He is as talented as one can become, and he can even resurrect the dead, which is the paramount reason for my loyalty towards him. He worships Aerth, the goddess of nature, and fights Therian with the same strength as me. He has helped me numerous times, and resurrected three of my friends, most importantly Keinar. Garath also has an ability to be present whenever one needs him, and I’m convinced that he’s also a gifted magician. The duke unfortunately thinks that Garath is on his side – I fear for what will happen, if he’s correct. To lose Garath as a friend would mean something close to the end of the world, and I write this without exaggerating.
