By Bartholomaeus Zippedaeus As you know, Morania is one of the eight realms, which emerged after the parting of the world. Until now, it has not been possible for anyone, neither elves, humans nor dwarves, to find a safe passage to any of the other seven realms. Therefore, the information about these seven realms has been gathered from rumors and wild stories, but since there’s always a little truth in any story, I’ve chosen to include all of it here. The reader must decide for himself if he will believe any of it. It has happened, though very rarely, that a few lost at sea have found refuge in Morania, after having sailed the ocean for weeks. A lot of these beings came from a realm called A’lendir. This realm was home to the highelves before the war of the gods, but the parting of the world scattered the races. Humans and highelves now live side by side in A’lendir. The next realms are named: Yinia; which supposedly is another human realm a lot like Morania. The Tai islands; according to the legends, this is where the remains of the gods' forces are, from when they parted the world – magic. Only magical beings can survive here, that’s why no one in Morania is entirely certain of what these islands contain. Then there is Nisaria... a realm where the drows rule, they trade and cooperate with humans and orcs left in the realm. These groups don’t want to, but who says no to a drow when her whole army is breathing down your neck? The elves especially are repressed in this realm, and have desperately searched for a way out ever since the parting of the world, but have yet to find one, besides the drows’ numerous tunnels below ground. The last two realms are first Menotamia, which is supposedly populated with dwarves, a place where huge and beautiful mountains dominates. And finally there is Yhtilia, the remains of the forest where Eresir created the animals. It is a beautiful and lush realm and the forest elves flourish here. A lot of dwarves live in the mountainous borders. But I have lead you astray from what I really wanted to describe, the geography of Morania. As you may already know, our realm is decidedly huge, and I’ve only heard of a few who have travelled from one end to the other. Towards the east lies the large forests where both wild elves and forest elves dwell. These forests cover a huge area of Morania and they have never been mapped. Besides, the elves have an uncanny ability to build their fortresses and other buildings in nature so no other breeds can find them, even if they happen to walk right past. That is why no one knows how many elves live in these forests, and one could easily imagine entire cities hidden amongst the green leaves. Morania’s border towards the east is a humongous gorge, carving deeply through the country. This gorge has existed since the parting of the world, and no living creature will ever succeed in crossing it, unless the gods themselves create a bridge. To the south we have the mines of the dwarves, where they mine their fine metals out of the hard rock. We get our gold, silver and jewels from these mines, and the building stones which make the foundation of the King’s castle here in Calendon, are also from the south mines. The dwarves have always worked closely with us and we’ve always been close. The dwarves report that Morania in the south ends in a colossal mountain range, as far as the eye can see and high enough to reach the clouds. There is no road through these mountains and no way beneath them, according to the dwarves. Since they are amongst Neveri’s finest stonemasons, they would know. We wouldn’t want a way through the mountains anyway, not with Chrumsniklonia on the other side! To the west there are mainly human villages and inns. Amongst larger towns we have Camrynn, a little forest society close to the shore, Halmlan which is a big trade city in the middle of Morania, and Drolon, a village not far from Camrynn, mainly populated by peasants and tradesmen. They are known for their good brew. There are many small societies but I will mention Valindor and Saltina, which in recent times where the center of a major tragedy. A necromancer lived there and the area is today known as “the fields of death”. But that story is not to be told here. Besides these villages, the realm is sparsely populated. There are both fields and forests, depending on where the humans have settled down. The further west, the farther apart these villages and inns lie. The farthest west are small villages, they look more like fortresses or huts for soldiers and warriors. The western shore shows the great ocean, always roaring, and always sending crashing waves against the shores of Morania, as if it tried to swallow it. Travellers have always come from this ocean. They say there are islands to be found out there – the Tai kingdom. No one knows for sure, however, since no one alive has returned to tell the tale. To the north lies our magnificent capital, the King’s city, Calendon, where I am at the present. This city is so beautiful and spectacular that I will not even begin to describe it. Further north is the high elf city of Correntain, which is located against a huge mountain range. This town no man, or at least very few, has seen, since the high elves here consider themselves the finest and most powerful of all. Their city is nearly perfectly built, from materials we humans can’t even dream of controlling. The architecture have been made by a race so ahead of us in their development, that we in comparison only live in crude huts. Even Calendon, which to us is so beautiful, pale in comparison to Correntain. As previously stated, Morania is also locked in by a mountain range to the north that cannot be crossed in any way. It protects our realm from outside attackers but it also locks our adventurous citizens inside. Who knows what lies behind these mountains? Who knows what’s on the other side of the gorge, that splits a land meant to be one? But I have fulfilled my duty now, I have told you about the world you live in, and which you should fully know. If you want to know more about the realm called Morania, you must go out and experience it. But be weary, friend, you never know what hides behind the next tree, or what comes out when Fayon’s light have gone down in the sea at night to rest until the next day, when light can once again shine over Morania. The night belongs to Nisara and dark creatures. Last updated: The 8th of August 2011 10:38AM.
